Compression
The Riancorp low level laser is the only FDA approved laser for the treatment of lymphedema. This laser has been researched for people with secondary lymphedema, caused by breast cancer treatment, particularly those who have been through radiation.
The invisible wavelength will penetrate the skin to the deeper tissues to help with:
Scar tissue
Pain
Swelling
Fibrosis
You will feel immediate improvement in your skin and your pain. Swelling or lymphedema in the arm and/or armpit has been shown to improve after about 3 months after the laser treatment has concluded. These effects can then last for 3-6 months before needing the laser treatment again. This means that this is the ONLY long lasting treatment for lymphedema, besides lymphedema surgery!
The best part is that there are no side effects! You will not feel any warmth or ill effects from the laser, so unlike pain medication there are NO RISKS!
The protocol for treatment is:
15 minutes 3x per week for 3 weeks
OR
2x per week for 4-6 weeks.
The laser is held perpendicular to the skin in the armpit or axilla or in the area of fibrosis for 1 minute at each spot, it is then moved to another spot about 1 centimeter away. Our CLTs have been trained to use this laser to help YOU!
