Be Strong Therapy Services is the proud 2020 recipient of the Florida Physical Therapy Association's Catherine E. Patla Community Awareness Grant. This esteemed grant is administered as a commitment to assisting Florida physical therapists in their relations with the public and patients through community awareness of the physical therapy profession. Our submission titled “ Community-Based Education: Physical and Occupational Therapy’s Role in the Cancer Continuum" consisted of a proposal for quarterly lunch and learns surrounding cancer rehab and a workshop course on cancer and intimacy.
While COVID-19 has changed how we are able to fulfill this grant, The Be Strong Team worked diligently to make our 1st workshop a success! On January 29th, our 1st Lunch N' Learn had both in-person, socially distanced participants and Zoom attendants.
Participants learned what cancer rehab is and why any person going through cancer could benefit. We had a great discussion on what people with cancer go through during the course of treatment and why it can be hard to implement exercise into a routine.
We raffled off a chemo care gift basket, donated by our friends at Need a Gift, which included a 60 minute oncology massage by Chelsea French, LMT, CLT!
If you were unable to attend or would like to catch the presentation, you can access the live recording here.
Check out our Events page to find out about the upcoming lunch n' learns, we hope to see you there!
